How Can We Treat Cellulite?
There have been many attempts over the last few years to develop a treatment that is effective for cellulite, however this has not been easy as the causes have been poorly understood.
To date there is NO CURE for cellulite, only methods of reducing the distressing orange peel effect.
The problem with cellulite is that the skin has often become thin and stretched.
In addition lumps of fat are deposited under the skin, one can picture these as analagous to the springs in a pocket sprung bed, poking through.
To add further insult there are also dips that appear due to scar tissue pulling the skin down.
Creams
Various companies have produced cellulite creams, these have a limited effect if any, the massaging itself may be helpful as a short term aid.
Massaging therapies
There are many massaging type therapies that have a temporary effect on cellulite. They mostly work by stimulating the skin to tighten and improve, by the application of heat and suction. Also they improve the blood flow. Velashape and Velasmooth are 2 of many that are FDA approved for the “temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite.”
For some that’s fine.
If having weekly treatments is ok for you. Probably one of the best massaging therapies is what we call LPG, this has been proven itself over the last few years to give quite remarkable improvement in skin tone, cellulite and stretch marks. We use this device everyday as part of our Alizonne weight loss programme and find it is very useful, inexpensive and popular.
What can I do that is going to have a longer term effect?
There are a couple of approaches that are effective and give relatively long term results:
Smart lipo or Advanced laser Lipo
Over the years we have developed techniques that are very effective at treating milder dimply cellulite, especially cellulite that is fixed or on the front of the thigh.
These give an instant result and are much appreciated. Obviously there is no cure, so if your cellulite changes in appearance regularly it is likely to need a maintenance massage type therapy.
Deep FX
Deep fx is a therapy designed to kill fat, thus reduce the lumps of fat as well as warm the skin to tighten it, considerably more effective than the simple massaging therapies BUT only for the milder grades of cellulite.
I have severe cellulite that is very visible. What Can I Do?
Cellutite
Cellutite has been designed to be more effective on the more severe cellulite. It is much more effective with one treatment than any other technique.
The Cellutite cannula uses heat, just like the Bodytite and Facetite to tighten and shrink the skin.
It also allows the doctor to break the scar tissue that pulls the skin down and suck out the melted lumps if fat.
The consequence is a much longer lasting result in those with more severe deformity.
We recommend 6 deep fx treatments to the area to improve the results, with periodic, perhaps yearly deep fx treatments to maintain the results.
Cellulite is the so called orange peel skin that ladies get sometimes from late teenage years up to middle age.
Why have I got Cellulite?
We do not really understand what the underlying cause of cellulite is, however only women are prone to this because of the structure of the fat under the skin of their legs.
In women fat is arranged in columns, rather like a pocket sprung mattress. The fat bulges out causing the protrusions and the fibrous septa ( like the pockets in the mattress that hold the springs) are attached to the skin and pull it in. There is also an effect caused by the skin becoming thinner that makes the lumpiness more visible. In most men the fat is arranged very differently thus they are not prone to this issue.
Will my cellulite go down if I lose weight?
No, if anything it can make it worse.
Is it something I am eating?
The folklore extends long in to the past that ‘toxins’ are some how responsible. We feel that all the stories about red wine and coffee etc are just that, designed to make women feel guilty.
Is Cellutite a Cure for Cellulite?
No! There is NO cure for cellulite as we do not definitively understand the underlying pathophysiology. However CelluTite is the most effective treatment ever developed and gives instant improvement of up to 70% that will last some considerable time.
We think that in those whose women whose cellulite is relatively fixed the results will be much longer lasting, in those whose cellulite changes daily, we expect more maintenance treatment will be required.
What Does CelluTite Do?
The CelluTite cannula cuts the fibrous septa that pull the skin in and flattens the raised, bulging pockets of fat. It also warms the skin to tighten and thicken it. The consequence is that the dips are removed or reduced, the bulges are flattened and the skin pulls taught to give a smoother finish.
Velashape II
This is a revolution in skin tightening and is an ideal treatment alongside CelluTite to help tighten skin, maintain the results of CelluTite, or for reducing the appearance of minor (grade 1) cellutlite, for which we would not use CelluTite.
