Cosmetic surgery is becoming less and less invasive as patients increasingly take advantage of new technologies instead of going under the knife.
With these new treatments and procedures there are shorter and fewer incisions, meaning patients spend less time under anaesthetic and recovering in hospital, according to a report from the US by ABC News.
Among the new techniques on offer are laser treatments and devices that use ultrasound to melt away fat and tighten skin, such as Bodytite and Liposonix.
Dermatologist Dr Doris Day told ABC's 20/20 programme that non-surgical liposuction options are the latest development in resculpting the body.
“It's like liposuction, but it's a non-surgical approach. … It uses that high-density focus ultrasound to actually heat up and melt fat,” she said.
The same technology can be used for non-surgical facelifts. Dr Day said that the ultrasound “delivers heat very deep, that helps give a lift”.
The doctor told Barbara Walters on ABC that she does not "believe in ageing gracefully", adding: "I think you have to fight it every step of the way."
Dr Day says the latest advancements give dermatologists and surgeons a range of tools that provide more flexibility so they can find the best approach for each patient.
